Staff Appreciation!

A few weeks ago we had a staff appreciation event (thanks Erin!) to let the staff know how much we are grateful for their hard work and dedication--they've been working really hard lately, lots of overtime. One thing about AH that I really like is that we don't overpay our staff. They are paid over minimum wage but there is not a financial incentive to work with us--We know that if they are choosing to work with AH it is because they have a heart for ministry and the communities we are serving, because the work is hard and the hours are long. We have a great staff.  One of our days together was a day trip to the Maasai Mara. Even though most of our staff have grown up just hours from this tourist attraction and watch van after van full of foreigners pass through Narok town on their way to the Mara, the majority of them haven't entered the wildlife park's gates. Jackson said, "It's like we've seen the gates of the Mara and gotten close but you have opened the gates and let us see what's inside!" Alice said, "I've studied about most of these animals in school but I haven't ever seen them in real life." It was fun to experience seeing so many wild animals with my Kenyan friends, many of whom were experiencing it for the first time. What a blessing!

Can you see the elephants out the window?

Here I am with the lions in the background--and a close-up of the lions!

Another part of this staff appreciation event was a talent show. (It always takes events like that to remind me that I don't have many exciting talents =) !) Erin and I wowed the crowd with our rendition of the American classic, "Heart & Soul."

Others showed us their Maasai jumping skills, scrabble playing abilities, acting, dancing, singing and much more! We had lots of fun.
