Camp has begun!

Sopa! Karibu! (Hello! Welcome!) Campers arrived after a long dusty bus ride from their rural villages. It's Maasai tradition to bow your head to an elder rather than shake hands.

Children waiting in line for lunch.
AH's camp for Orphans and Vulnerable Children has begun! They've met their teachers and as I write are enjoying a real shower in their rooms after several hours on a dusty bus.

One of our staff said this was one of their favorite days of the year. Over 90 children who have been orphaned or those from single parent families are our campers this week. This program is one of the inspirations for building the dorms here on AH's property so that we can bring the kids into town and give them a place to stay during camp. For some of the kids, coming to camp was their first time out of their village. Our staff said that last camp when the kids first stayed in the dorms instead of going to sleep they kept flipping the lights on and off and using the showers because they were amazed by the electricity and running water!!

This week the children will do the typical camp activities (Bible lesson, memory verses, games, crafts) but will also have a health assessment and meet with counselors who follow-up with the children year round.

Some of these children are ones receiving scholarships to attend school through AH and generous groups from the US. If you'd like to sponsor a child or school--email me! There are so many children who want to go to school but at this point don't have the funding.

  2. umm, the kid looking into the camera and smiling? yeah, I want to bring him home with me. How do you resist?

anyway...has the package arrived yet? I tried to make it look as boring as possible so no international fingers found their way into it. :)

    love you!
